Fall is an ideal time to build and enjoy a deck, screened porch or any other outdoor living spaces.

Even though most folks think of summer and spring as a time to enjoy backyard BBQ’s and outside get-togethers, autumn is a glorious time in St. Louis to enjoy the outdoors without the risk of extreme heat.

And at Archadeck, we are often designing, building or remodeling outdoor spaces during the fall months as St. Louis residents are planning for their 2014 home improvements too.

Simply put… if you build your deck or screened porch now, it’ll be ‘ready to go’ the moment spring arrives.

Other advantages of the fall building season include:

Convenience:  The kids are back in school and involved in after-school activities, so a construction site on your property is less disruptive to your daily life.  And since grass and plants go-dormant in late fall/winter, your yard experiences less disruption too!

Availability:  As the height of the building season begins to wind-down, work schedules for deck builders and contractors are typically more flexible.  As workloads get smaller, building can begin very quickly after decisions for your design and materials are finalized.

Timing:  If you are building with particular materials, especially certain types of wood, the dryer and less humid conditions of fall are beneficial for construction.

The wood won’t absorb moisture, is allowed to easily stabilize and ‘cure’ prior to staining and sealing in the spring.
