Deck by Archadeck with Holiday Decorations

It’s that time of year again when there are three things on everyone’s mind:

  • decorations
  • shopping and
  • meal planning

Yep, the holiday season is in full swing!

And if you’re like other folks, you’re looking for fresh ideas for 2014.

Archadeck can’t decorate, shop or cook for you but at least we can provide fabulous resources when it comes to what’s happening in the outdoor living niche.

So today let’s focus on holiday decorations for outdoor spaces.

Most homeowners enjoy festive trimmings, inside and out.  Whether you’re decorating your front porch, deck or screened-in porch, showcase your holiday spirit for family, guests and the whole neighborhood!

But please, PLEASE, don’t stress.  With a handful of tips and a little creativity, your display can be simple and elegant yet budget-friendly too.

Lights

Most of us feel that seasonal lighting is a must-have garnish.  Whether you prefer string lights, lanterns or candles, outdoor illumination creates a vibrant and warm glow on the front porch and in your backyard.

Two tips worth sharing:

First, don’t be afraid to keep it simple.

Remember that mere whispers of light often make a bolder statement than a flashy display.

Second, switch to LED Christmas lights this year.

LED lights use 80% less energy when compared to conventional lighting without sacrificing color and brilliance.  Flameless candles and solar top the list as well.

No matter your style, save energy and save money while maintaining your outside holiday attraction this December!

Look To Nature

One popular decorating trend in 2014 looks to nature for inspiration.  Natural elements include greenery — a tree (of course), wreaths, garland, sprays and sprigs — pinecones, branches, nuts or berries.

Poinsettias are a holiday staple but if using outside, go with silk.

And here’s a great tip.  If you love the look of garland on a porch or deck railing, try wrapping it lower on the balusters or at the bottom near the steps.

You’ll have a fresh look and free up the handrail for safety too.

Fabric

Fabric designed for outdoor use is readily available.

So for holiday charm, sprinkle your outdoor spaces with colorful fabrics via pillows and washable blankets.  Depending on your style, change up the palette.  For example, a rustic look might incorporate a mix of red and green tartan with touches of burlap.  A more elegant style might include gold and silver ribbon with winter whites and glitter too.
